Saman, thank you for giving us the opportunity to interview you! It's an honor to feature such an inspiring Islamic Style Icon!
◆ Tell us a little about yourself! Something we don't know.
I am a mom to two beautiful kids, a part-time Make-up Artist and Hijab Stylist. I also sell hijabs online and review products for other companies. I have always been passionate about makeup and fashion, but I didn’t pursue it until I was pregnant with my son. My passion grew after viewing other Fanpages and youtube videos. I went on to start my own fanpage on November 6, 2010 and began making youtube videos on May 30, 2011.
◆ How long are you wearing Hijab? And what inspired you to it?
I have been wearing hijab since 2005. I also wore it in 2002, but took it off in 2003 after my sister got married. You see, I used to be compared a lot with her, so when she started wearing it in 2002, I felt obligated to wear it and so I put it on. It was more of an obligation instead of it being my own decision. In 2005, when I met my husband, he is the one who inspired me to wear hijab and Alhumdulilah since then, I have been wearing it and I am extremely proud of it.
◆ What inspired you to do Hijab styling and Hijab tutorials?
As I said viewing other Hijab Styling videos on Youtube inspired me. I was also tired of wearing the same black square hijab everyday, so I began searching for some new looks. I came across yazthespaz videos and was very inspired by her looks and styles. It took me a while to make a decision of having my own channel but alhumdulilah on my birthday I decided to do make my first video called the "Ruffle Hijab Style" and it was a total success.
◆ Tell us a little about your business! Do you ship to South Africa?
My business is more of a passion. I am selling what I love wearing and would love my sisters to wear it too. I have been told that I should sell clothes but I am not into extending my business. I honestly don’t even know if I will be selling hijabs in the next five years. I am just going with the flow :) I do ship to South Africa.
◆ What else do you do apart from Styling Hijabs and running your Hijab business?
I review products for other companies as well. I find it more rewarding in helping others in their businesses, than selling my own hijabs. I love it, when I get feedback from Sisters I review products for. They are like "Sister, I made a lot of sales" or "I got so many fans". It’s a great feeling Alhamdulillah. I also do part-time make up and hijab styling for fashion shows, brides and any other special occasions.
◆ You keep getting better every time we go back to your Facebook page! What inspires you?
My "fans" they inspire me. If it wasn’t for their support and love, I wouldn't be here, where I am today. I am also grateful to Allah (SWT) for His blessings and my family for their support.
◆ Haven’t seen you with turban hijabs yet? Do you plan to do Turban Hijab looks?
I love turban styles on others but not much on myself.
◆ What does Fashion mean to you?
When I think of fashion, I think of Modesty. To me Fashion is something that expresses my
personality and my style. "They say fashion is what you buy, and style is what you do with it."
◆ Favourite Designer?
◆ Favourite wardrobe Must-Have?
Maxi skirts, dresses, neon and floral print blouses. You got to have an animal print blouse!
◆ As a makeup Artist, we want to know your favourite brand of Make-Up?
My favourite brand is NARS
◆ Is it true you are married to a South African? How did you meet?
Yes it’s true. I am married to a South African. We met through mutual friends.
◆ Have you been to South Africa, when and where! And do you plan to visit us anytime soon? Please do come!
Yes I have been to South Africa in 2009. I was captivated by beautiful Cape Town,
Durban beaches and can’t forget the food. OMG I love Ocean basket! I would love to visit South Africa again inshallah.
◆ What's Ramadhaan like for you in Canada?
Alhumdulillah Ramadhaan in Canada is great but nothing like in Pakistan. I lived in Pakistan for 8 years and the atmosphere of Ramadhaan in is amazing. Hearing five time adhan, the ramadhan programs you get to see on TV, the food shops during iftar and sehri time, it’s simply amazing!
◆ What is your one Ramadhaan Resolution?
Definitely to read more Quran and to be more patient.
◆ A message for your fans?
Live your dreams and stay HUMBLE!
